Santa comes to the Santa Breakfast

The highlight of the Cub Scouts/Knights of Columbus Santa Breakfast was, of course, Santa. Throngs of St. Raphael families turned out for the annual event. Knights prepared the delicious pancakes, eggs and sausage breakfast and Cub Scouts were the servers. The breakfast was also a successful fundraiser. Nearly $700 in proceeds will be presented to Pinellas Hope, the diocese homeless shelter.

Knights Pinellas Hope dinner raises $2,000
Knights of Columbus donated more than $2,000 to Pinellas Hope, the proceeds from the third annual Pinellas Hope Dinner. Some 121 parishioners from St. Raphael and other parishes attended the event. Sheila Lopez, chief operating officer of Catholic Charities, and Angela Mosley, housing manager of Pinellas Hope gave an update on the status of the project. Pinellas Hope provides temporary shelter for homeless men and women at a facility on 20 acres in Clearwater. The project, a program of Catholic Charities in the Diocese of St. Petersburg, began in 2007.

Boots, bling and big bucks!

St. Raphael parishioners turned out for Boots N Bling Western Fling on Saturday, February 25 in the Parish Center. The St. Raphael Catholic School fundraiser had a western theme, complete with a bucking mechanical bull, which daring would-be cowgirls and cowboys could try their luck at riding at only $10 a buck. Other activities included line dancing and live and silent auctions.

• Tennis Anyone?: This basket has ll you need to take your game to the next level, including lessons! Also includes water bottles, tennis balls, sunscreen and lunch for two.

• Beers of the World Basket: The name says it all.
• Beach Basket: Everything you need for fun in the sun with your family.
Saddle up and join us for the St. Raphael Annual Auction to benefit St. Raphael Catholic School.
The western themed gala event will include bull riding, line dancing, a silent auction and a live auction. Tickets are $55 per person. That includes dinner, beer and wine. A full bar is available with a $15 cost for each endless cup.Don't forget to sign up for raffle tickets at $50 each for a $2,500 cash prize. Dad's Club tickets are $25 each.
Boots N Bling Western Fling runs 6 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, February 25 in the St. Raphael Parish Center.

Help us with the rummage sale
By Denise DebordAre you starting to clean out closets in anticipation of the holidays and holiday visitors? Are you downsizing or do you know friends or family who are moving or downsizing? If so, CCW has a way to help you out.
The St. Raphael Chapter of the Council of Catholic Women will hold its annual Pack Rat Rummage Sale on Saturday, January 21, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Every year the event gets bigger and better but to insure this we need donations. This year I have some storage space available for those of you who have some items and don't have anywhere to store them until the sale. The space is somewhat limited but it is available so let me know and we'll try to make whatever arrangements we can.
Volunteers have signed up to help with the event but we still need more volunteers to help not just on Friday, January 20 with the set up and Saturday, January 21 with the sale, but with helping to receive and sort the items in the afternoons the week of January 16 through the 19.
And please, don't think that this is a ladies only event. We need to enlist the help of husbands, daughters and sons. Every year we have a few more teens and men helping out but we always need more help.
This is an opportunity for the teens, school, parents—all of our parish organizations to pull together to make this a fun, successful fundraiser. This year's festival showed how much we can do if we all support each other. I'm asking that you redirect this message so I can get the word out to everyone.
We could use some additional storage space so if anyone has a bit of extra room in their garage or storage unit that we could utilize for a few months it would be greatly appreciated. We also need volunteers who have a truck or van and can help out with transporting some of the items to and from storage and the church.

St. Raphael Festival opens Friday
At last, it's time for the St. Raphael Festival, a three-day, fun-filled extravaganza, with carnival rides for children of all ages, delicious specialty food booths, two themed dinner nights (Oktoberfest and Family Spaghetti Night), live music and Bingo.

St. Raphael parishioners turned out in hungry droves on Sunday for the St. Vincent de Paul Society Italian Night dinner in the Parish Center. Proceeds from the event will be used to help a parish family in need.

Plenty of activity for the Bake Sale
Photo by Jane WinsteadThere was plenty of activity around the Bake Sale tables Sunday after 9:30 a.m. Mass as St. Raphael youth helped raise money to contribute to the St. Vincent de Paul Society fundraiser to help a family in need in the parish. Parishioners bought homemade cookies, cakes and brownies to aid the effort.

Last Lenten Fish Fry of the season
This is the last Friday for the Lenten Fish Fry. After this, no more Lenten Fish Fry until next year.
It is also the last chance you'll have to enter the raffle for a mini-vacation at the Trade Winds Resort on St. Pete Beach. Your $5 ticket could be the winner. It's worth a shot, right? Besides all proceeds go to help support the Youth ministry at St. Raphael so even if you don't win the resort prize you still win, right?

The festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. with the famous St. Raphael fish dinner, beer and wine and other beverages, desserts galore. Everything continues on until 8 p.m. in the Parish Center so if you can't get there right at 5:30, don't worry about it. There will be plenty of food left later. Don't be too late, though. It does end at 8 p.m.
