St. Raphael Confirmation 4.18.10

Parish youth participated in the sacrament of Confirmation recently. Confirmation brings an increase and deepening of baptismal grace. It unites us more firmly with Christ. You can read more about Confirmation and its origins.

Holy Week observances

Easter Sunday, 9:30: This is the celebration of Jesus' resurrection on the third day after his crucifixion. St. Raphael Church was filled to capacity. Some worshipers even stood in the Narthex.

Saturday Vigil: The observance is the first celebration of the Eucharist during the Easter season. The Paschal candle is lighted from an Easter fire in front of the church. The candle symbolizes Christ as the light of the world and His presence in the midst of His people.

Good Friday: The fast day solemnly commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death on the cross.

Holy Thursday: The feast solemnly commemorates the institution of the Eucharist. It is the oldest of the Holy Week observances, and includes the Washing of the Feet, a ceremony that follows Jesus' example when he washed the feet of the Disciples after the Last Supper.

Palm Sunday: The feast marks the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. Palms are distributed to parishioners at St. Raphael.
